This October 30 was presentations of the First International Meeting of Native Peoples cycle ,presentations of the First International Meeting of Native People held in the state of Bolivar with the participation of 18 countries.
The Vice President of International Affairs of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela, Adam Chávez, recalled in his speech the fight led by Commander Hugo Chávez in favor of the original peoples, with whom he signed an act of commitment.
“Before the revolution the Indians were invisible, despised, subjected to terrible discrimination and persecution. You have had a struggle for years seeking recognition and we have accompanied you. Chávez’s project was to achieve a change in the country by committing directly to indigenous peoples and ensuring that their rights were concretized from the Constitution. Many were against including a special chapter of indigenous peoples but justice was imposed and today their rights are respected, which have been implemented through laws by revolution.
From this meeting a powerful integration plan must follow to continue. The Bolivarian alliance for our America must go further with true participation of organized peoples, ”he said.
In the framework of the International Year of Indigenous Languages, Nicaraguan indigenous Maritza Centeno mentioned that “we want to tell the empire we are educated in our own languages, under our own worldview and we grow up thinking a new dawn is possible only under progressive governments and solidarity like Nicolás Maduro of; In this meeting we set a strong position in favor of our true roots. ”
Regarding decolonization, Mario Itzep, representative of Guatemala, said “we have to build a new society which implies a profound reform in education system. Dismantling colonization implies a great task to maintain our millenary culture. ”
Finally, the PSUV Vice President for Indigenous Peoples, Aloha Núñez, highlighted the fight led by foundations for the formation of the United Indigenous Movement of Venezuela.
“We have a route, vision and clarity as revolutionaries; Humbly from Venezuela we put this experience as an example so it’s repeated worldwide with full political will of the native peoples in order to form a powerful world organization with incorporation of all native peoples. Let’s assume this commitment, now we must specify a work agenda so next year we have our founding congress. It’s Chávez’s dream, it’s our dream, the moment is now, ” said.
