How did the elections for governor of the state of Barinas, Venezuela come to be?
According to the National Electoral Council ‘s schedule (Venezuela), the electoral campaign in Barinas state will run until January 6 at midnight.
On Sunday, January 9, elections will be held to elect the governor of the Venezuelan state of Barinas, homeland of the leader of the Bolivarian Revolution, Hugo Chávez, hence the interest for Venezuelans who have taken this regional election.
The repetition of the elections in the state of Barinas was agreed on November 30 by the authorities of the National Electoral Council (CNE).
Along with the call to repeat the elections, the electoral schedule for this process was also approved, which was published on December 1.
The electoral authorities admitted a total of 30 nominations for the position of governor, among the candidates are former Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza nominated by the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV).
Another candidate is Sergio Garrido, supported by the so-called Unit Table and Claudio Fermín, candidate of some parties of the Democratic Alliance.
According to the CNE’s schedule, the electoral campaign will run until January 6 at midnight.
The CNE authorities authorized six political and social organizations in the South American country to participate as observers on election day.
For the election of the governor of Barinas, the same electoral registry of the regional and local elections held on November 21 will be used.
Regarding the voting machines, the CNE recalled that on December 17, those that will be used during the election were audited: 961 main machines and the 433 planned for contingency situations.
