A Thai former military man, dressed in combat uniform and a red beret, has attacked a coronavirus field hospital in the Panthum Thani Province. Local media have named the man as Kawin Saengnikul.

A local police chief confirmed the 23-year-old had killed 2 people in the shooting spree and has since been arrested. One patient was killed in the hospital, while a shop worker was shot dead earlier in Bangkok, reportedly over a dispute.

The police spox told Reuters that the shooter had mistaken the Covid-19 patients for drug addicts, adding that he hated them – the field hospital had previously been a drug rehabilitation center.
