Never before has the Venezuelan men’s volleyball team had such an opportunity to qualify for the Olympic Games. In 2008 they qualified Beijing with the women’s team, marking their only participation in the maximum competition in the volleyball court.
This year the Venezuelan team has a great opportunity to qualify for the Olympic Games, because Brazil and Argentina already have their ticket guaranteed to Tokyo 2020, since both South American countries managed to remain champions of their group in the qualifying tournament, event where only the best 24 countries in the FIVB world ranking could attend. The team led by Ronald Sarti is ranked 31st in the World Ranking and has participated in the South American Championship on Tuesday, which awards four places to the Pre-Olympic next January.
Venezuelans will travel to Chile to participate in the XXXIII South American Championship, to be held from September 10 to 14, 2019, to find a place for the South American pre-Olympic to be held from January 6 to 12 of next year. The four best positioned countries in the South American (not counting Brazil and Argentina) may participate in the pre-Olympic.
