Jorge Arreaza, said that Venezuela was elected to the Presidency of the Committee on External Relations of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco).Venezuela participates in the 40th Unesco general conference held in Paris, which this year has as its theme “Regeneration, the role of youth in creating a world peace agenda”.
Arreaza said it is a new triumph for the diplomacy of that South American nation.
Last October, Venezuela too got a seat in the UN Rights Council, after receiving 105 votes in favor, above Costa Rica, which obtained 96 votes.
Countries like Chile and Peru condemned Venezuela’s entry to the United Nations Human Rights Council.
On October 17, 14 new board members were elected, which is made up of 47 countries, which will effectively hold their positions on January 1, 2020.
The Human Rights Council was created by the UN General Assembly on March 15, 2006, “with the main objective of considering the situations of human rights violations and make recommendations about it, “according to the agency’s website.
