The United States transported 700 tanks and armored vehicles to the northern Polish port of Gdynia, Polish media Wyborcza.pl reports.
The war materiel, which includes M1A2 Abrams tanks, Bradley infantry fighting vehicles and M113 armored personnel carriers, among others, was supplied aboard the ARC Integrity and has been unloaded since Saturday.
The teams belong to the 1st Infantry Division of the US Army, whose 2nd Armored Brigade was deployed to Poland in 2017. Since then, about twenty supplies have been made across the Atlantic to that port at sea Baltic.
The transfer of arms and troops is taking place as part of the Atlantic Resolve mission, launched in 2014 in response to the conflict that broke out in eastern Ukraine.
“Over the next two weeks, the equipment will be transported from the port on trains and trucks to military bases located at various locations in Poland,” the media details.
The next delivery is scheduled for next January and would be even larger, accounting for some 2,000 vehicles.
In the framework of the war between Ukraine and Russia, the Ukrainian leaders, supported by the West, repeatedly requested modern tanks that are in service in Western countries, but military assistance in this matter has been limited to Soviet-made equipment or other obsolete vehicles.
Meanwhile, the delivery of advanced NASAMS air defense systems has begun, while discussions are increasing over the delivery of MIM-104 Patriot systems to kyiv.
It is likely that the Western stance on modern tanks could change in the near future, in which case vehicles like the Abrams, Bradley and M113 would be just around the corner and could be supplied to Ukraine quickly, notes Russian outlet Gazeta.ru
