This Tuesday, the Venezuelan ambassador to the United Nations (UN), Samuel Moncada, held a meeting with the director in charge of the United Nations Service for Mine-Related Activities (UNMAS), in which ratified the request of the Bolivarian Government for said specialized agency to provide its experience and expertise to the members of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces.
Among the requests made by Venezuela during the bilateral meeting are “the provision of technical assistance and advice on capacity development, including through the exchange of best practices; technological assistance, including through the exchange of mine action techniques and technologies; and support in the design and implementation of rehabilitation and reintegration programs for mine victims ”.
On April 2, 2021, the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela sent a communication to the UN, requesting technical support of UNMAS to strengthen efforts of the security forces of the Venezuelan State in matters of action against mines, in fulfillment of international commitments derived from the Ottawa Treaty, and thus maintain the country as a mine-free territory, the Venezuelan Mission to the UN outlined.
