The Black Dagger is a two-stage, short-range ballistic missile that is created by mating a Pathfinder Zombie target missile, another SMDC custom-built target missile, on top of a Terrier MK70 first stage booster
On October 1, 2020, the United States hosted an exercise on the compatibility of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) mobile ground-based missile defense system (THAAD) for high-altitude transatmospheric interception of medium-range missiles and Patriot air defense systems with the latest PAC-3 MSE anti-aircraft missiles.
In the test at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico, the THAAD AN/TPY-2 radar detected and tracked a Black Dagger target missile and provided that information to the Patriot system. The Patriot launch system deployed a Patriot Advanced Capability-3 Missile Segment Enhancement missile and destroyed the target.
