The clashes took place as part of an operation to capture a leader of the National Liberation Army (ELN) group. Two guerrillas were killed.
Two soldiers died during clashes between members of the Army and the ELN guerrillas in the rural area of Florencia, a municipality in southern Cauca and on the border with the department of Nariño.
Peasants who were left in the middle of the crossfire managed to record some footage of the clashes.
From the municipality of Florencia, a call was made to the Ombudsman’s Office and a ceasefire to be able to evacuate inhabitants of several villages that have been left in the middle of the fighting. Some of them have arrived injured at the local hospital.
