The controversial way of acting of Erdogan’s Turkey, in events such as the war in Syria and other aspects of today, has also extended to the coronavirus crisis. The Turkish government has requisitioned hundreds of respirators purchased and paid for by the Spanish government and the communities of Navarra and Castilla-La Mancha, to treat their own patient.
The merchandise had been manufactured in Turkey, on behalf of a Spanish company, which had imported the components from China for this purpose.
Foreign Minister Arantxa González Laya has tried to unblock the situation but has run into the deadlock of the Turkish government. This has stated that perhaps in the future the shipment can be unblocked, but the Spanish government is pessimistic about it.
Previously, Turkey had delivered a 25-ton shipment to Spain with masks, gowns and disinfectant gel that was sent in the framework of collaboration between NATO allied countries. The plane arrived this week in Madrid, but the respirators, at the moment, have no prospect of departure.
