MOSCOW, 21 January. /TASS/. Tu-160 strategic missile carriers conducted a 13-hour flight over the Arctic Ocean, refueling in the air. This was reported on Friday by the Russian Defense Ministry.
“Two Tu-160 strategic missile carriers completed a scheduled flight in airspace over the neutral waters of the Arctic Ocean, the Barents and White Seas for about 13 hours,” the report says.
“All flights of aircraft of the Aerospace Forces of Russia are carried out in strict accordance with international rules for the use of airspace,” the Defense Ministry said.
The supersonic bomber Tu-160 “White Swan” is a carrier of cruise missiles with both conventional and nuclear weapons. The missiles are placed inside the fuselage in two drums of six each. Modern cruise missiles X-101, which can be armed with a missile carrier, have a flight range of about 5.5 thousand kilometers.
