The Secretary of International Affairs for Defense revealed the possibility exists for the Armed Forces of Argentina to carry out joint military exercises with their peers from the People’s Republic of China.
The information provided by Cafiero to CARI, which was sent to the seminar on the direct instruction of Defense Minister Agustin Rossi, arises from a previous meeting that this Secretary of State held with his Chinese counterparts to deepen military relations between Argentina and China. The meeting took place on January 23 and was formalized via Zoom with the knowledge of Minister Rossi.
Cafiero revealed the classified information during a seminar organized by CARI entitled “Strategic Relations of Argentina: China.” It was a closed academic activity, which took place on April 5, a few days after the arrival of Admiral Craig Faller from the United States Southern Command and Juan González, the main advisor for Latin American issues to North American President Joe Biden.
“It also talks about how we articulate and work from the Foreign Ministry and diplomatic defense everything that has to do with defense matters, but the combined exercises are the issues that we are beginning to address in addition to the already existing agenda. It would be a very interesting precedent for Argentine forces with Chinese armed forces to carry out joint combined exercises, “said the Secretary of International Affairs for Defense, according to audio.
