The US Army launched a new strategic foundation to guide future decision-making processes as Army facilities are transformed into platforms that support multi-domain operations. The strategy describes how each facility will be a “smart” platform of capabilities, using connected sensors to enhance operational capacity and improve service delivery.
The AIS reflects the Army’s priorities: people, preparedness, and modernization. The facilities of the future will have modern facilities, services and safe operations with solutions to the new requirements of protection, resilience, mission assurance, power projection, education and training. They will also focus on modernization and innovation, with expanded 5G backbone capacity and innovations to modernize services, improve building standards and find efficiencies. Future facilities will continue to promote stewardship taking care of natural and cultural resources through proactive programs in sustainability, pollutant remediation, and technological innovation.
“The fence line is now the front line and emerging trends require the Army to look at facilities through a new lens,” said Alex A. Beehler, Army Under Secretary for Facilities, Energy and Environment. “Facilities are the platforms from which the Army builds culture, trains, and projects power. The AIS addresses a number of emerging requirements related to multidomain operations and Army Modernization and People Strategies, and will leverage the full capabilities of the facilities. to help The military compete, deter and win in an increasingly complex security environment. ”
The National Defense Strategy urges the Department of Defense to transition to grassroots solutions that are smaller, more dispersed, resilient and adaptable, and with a range of active and passive defenses. Furthermore, the NDS states that “the homeland is no longer a sanctuary.”
The new Facilities Strategy will address these solutions and defenses against potential threats, including physical, cyber and information attacks, as the Army adapts its existing infrastructure, systems and services.
