The Northern Fleet flagship, the nuclear-powered missile cruiser Pyotr Velikiy, and dozens of other warships and submarines entered the Barents Sea as part of joint exercises with aviation.
Pyotr Velikiy is the fourth Kirov-class battle cruiser in the Russian Navy. She was initially named Yuri Andropov after Yuri Andropov, the former secretary general of the Communist Party, but the name of the ship was changed after the fall of the Soviet Union.
