Islamic State claims responsibility for assassination of Badakhshan police chief
According to the Islamists, the militants have been watching the route of Mullah AbdulHaq from home to work for a long time and today they set up a car bomb 200 meters from the Faizabad police headquarters, as a result of which the head of the security forces and several of his subordinates were killed.
This was the first assassination of an entire province’s police chief since the Taliban came to power.
Badakhshan Province (Persian/Uzbek: بدخشان, Badaxšān) is one of the 34 provinces of Afghanistan, located in the northeastern part of the country. It is bordered by Tajikistan’s Gorno-Badakhshan in the north and the Pakistani regions of Lower and Upper Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan in the southeast. It also has a 91-kilometer (57-mile) border with China in the east
