Gamal Abdel Nasser Airbase is Libyan Air Force base , located about 16 km south of Tobruk. It’s believed that some 60 or 70 Mirage F.1ED aircraft were once assigned.
Before March 31, 1970, the airfield was known as the Royal Adem Air Force Station, and the RAF used it primarily as a mounting post. Before World War II, it had been an Italian Air Force airfield. Several old Italian buildings were seen remaining in 2003, during a courtesy visit of former RAF personnel, at which time no military aircraft were evidenced.
