The former head of Taiwan’s top weapons builder has confirmed that the island has developed two types of long-range missiles that could hit Shanghai or Beijing.
Kung Chia-cheng, the ex-president of the government-funded National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology, also said the United States had once warned Taiwan against trial launches of a large ballistic missile and had prevented Taipei from obtaining key components for a ship-launched missile.
In his recently published memoir, The Reminiscences of Mr Gong Chia Cheng, the 74-year-old retired rear admiral revealed some behind-the-scenes details of several major missile development projects he was involved in during his time as the institute’s head between 2004 and 2007.
