Spain Kingdom defence problems with military doctors: it does not retain the only one who passed the last competition for the position.
The extraordinary call of September is deserted when the only opponent who passed the tests requests the voluntary redundancy.
The lack of members in the Military Medical Corps of the Spanish Armed Forces has become worrying. It is a specialty that has ceased to be attractive to the meds. The most tangible proof is what has happened this year: the Ministry of Defense has not been able to retain the only doctor who approved the extraordinary opposition on October 11, Javier González Martín, who just two weeks after obtaining the position asked to leave at own request.
The department headed by Margarita Robles came from a very compromised situation. In April, she called for 48 direct entry positions for medical officers: in 25 positions it was required to have a previous specialty and in 23 this requirement was not necessary. In August the results of the opposition were published and in it only two applicants from the first group and eleven from the second appeared as approved.
Therefore, the Ministry of Defense only covered 27% of the positions called for recruiting new military doctors from the civilian sphere in April to make the leap to the Armed Forces, according to El Digital Confidential. This situation led the Robles department to publicize on September 6 a new extraordinary call for qualified doctors. The offer included 17 places in total, but it has not had the expected result either.
González Martín was the only graduate who passed this last Defense exam, which he applied for without having a specialty. He achieved the position in family and community medicine. However, as soon as he arrived in Zaragoza, he asked to leave after 15 days. Military sources consulted by THE OBJECTIVE give In fact, the doctor preferred the economic conditions of civil health, where they are more attractive than in the military.
