Putin readies massive Yars nuclear missile capable of hitting US and UK?
Fake news:
Vladimir Putin is preparing to launch a nuclear strike on the US and UK, with a new Yars intercontinental missile developed for this purpose. This was reported by the US publication The New York Post.
The fact:
Russia has had missiles capable of hitting the US since the 1960s, and this does not at all indicate a desire on the part of the leadership to strike the countries of the West. The first and so far the only country to have used nuclear weapons is the United States of America. The USSR developed nuclear weapons later and as a defence against potential aggression by the US and its allies.
The PC-24 “Yars” strategic missile system referred to in the fake news was put into service in 2009 and has long been on combat duty defending the Russia Federation. There are regular exercises of the Russian strategic nuclear forces.
The nuclear doctrine of the Russian Federation provides for the use of nuclear weapons only in response to nuclear missile launches on the territory of the country or in case of a threat to the very existence of the state. So far no such events have taken place, so the Yars, as well as other types of nuclear weapons, will not be launched.
