Russian “Iskander” systems equipped with “stealth” missiles
Russian “Iskander-M” tactical systems will be equipped with “stealth” missiles with high maneuverability and flexibility against enemy anti-aircraft guns, the Russian daily “Izvestia” reported on Wednesday.
The newspaper quoted Russian Defense Ministry sources as saying that the missiles are “impossible to monitor in practice, while this weapon can perform highly complex maneuvers, allowing it to avoid enemy interceptor missiles and hit ground targets with pinpoint precision. “. . ”
The newspaper noted that the new missile, whose development work began in 2016 and was tested on the first in 2020, is capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 500 km.
In November 2020, the commander of the Russian Artillery and Missile Forces, Mikhail Matveyevsky, confirmed that the “Iskander-M” would remain a basic system in this type of national armed forces until at least 2030, although he indicated that there are scientific capabilities to develop alternative weapons.
