Second Sergeant Juan Gabriel Chichanoi Miramag was kidnapped when he was traveling on a public transport bus between the municipalities of El Tambo and Patía, in the department of Cauca. The Army rejected the arrest on Wednesday, January 11, and now a video has been released as proof of survival.
According to information from the authorities, Chichanoi had gone on leave. However, on the road to the south-west of the country, a group of men with weapons stopped the bus, inspected the passengers and made the non-commissioned officer get off the bus.
“This criminal action is a flagrant violation of human rights and infringement of international humanitarian law, for which the National Army categorically rejects these facts, and has already filed a complaint with the competent authority,” the Army said in a statement.
The armed individuals identified themselves as members of the Carlos Patiño dissidents of the FARC. From that moment on, the search operation was deployed with the help of the testimonies of the bus driver and the passengers who saw him for the last time. The second sergeant is alive.
“I was captured by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia. So far, my rights as a person have been respected. I have not received physical, verbal or psychological aggression. (…) I feel fine, ”Chichanoi assured while he was sitting in a camp accompanied by about ten men with long weapons.
