Spain government president, Pedro Sánchez, has given green light to measures related to defense that haven’t gone through debate or vote in the Spanish Parliament.
Some of these measures are big importance and include the budgetary increase in defense spending, the agreement with the US to increase the presence of warships at the base that the North American country has in Cádiz or the shipment of arms to Ukraine, which includes Leopard tanks from the Spanish Army.
The Government promised to bring to Congress the increase in defense spending, as announced by the president himself in June of last year, when, after the NATO Summit held in Madrid, he stated that he would present to the Cortes Generales the proposal to increase that item budget up to 2% of GDP over a period of eight years, to reach it in 2029.
Increased spending outside of budgets
The General State Budgets must be debated and voted on in the Congress of Deputies each year, before the fiscal year begins. However, in this case, Sánchez has chosen to carry out extraordinary credit extensions, a power of the Government that doesn’t require parliamentary processing.
That’s the world based on rules…
