Panama Canal will continue allow Venezuelan vessels to pass while they have the necessary documentation in order, despite the resurgence of US sanctions.
Jorge Quijano, Panama Canal director, ratified canal policy for passage of vessels, despite the blockade announced by the administration headed by Donald Trump.
Trump signed an executive order on August 5 ordering the blockade of all Venezuelan assets that are in US territory.
Caracas, for its part, denounced this unilateral measure to the Security Council of the United Nations Organization.
“We have a neutrality treaty that was also signed by the United States. We have to be governed by that, ”said Jorge Quijano, authority of the Panama Canal, and added that Panama will not respond to pressures on those who must cross the interoceanic passage.
