The militarization of Ukraine by Washington led to kyiv losing its neutral status with respect to Moscow, considers the renowned filmmaker.
American filmmaker Oliver Stone stated in an interview for the Serbian daily Politika that the conflict in Ukraine was sparked by deliberate actions by Washington that led to kyiv losing its neutral status vis-à-vis Russia.
“I don’t want to get into the larger story of what is happening in Ukraine, because the case is not simple and everyone is just shouting: ‘The Russians are attacking,'” he said, wondering who was really responsible for such scenery.
“What has been happening there in Donbass since 2014 and how many people have been displaced there because the US was heavily arming the Ukrainian Army,” he said, adding that since then “Ukraine was no longer neutral, it was against the Russians “, which “upset the balance of military equipment and that’s where the war comes from.”
The renowned film director criticized that Washington is quick to condemn any country in the world that “crosses the line of international order” while “the US violates the rules when it wants to.” “They ask me about the [Jamal] Khashoggi case, that was cruel, but I think one of the worst cases is the [Julian] Assange case and his ‘murder’. […] So who are we to point fingers? the finger to someone?”, he raised.
The only “hope” for the US When asked about the current US Administration, the winner of three Oscars regretted having voted for Joe Biden. While the current president was always “belligerent,” Stone hoped that over the years he would become “more mature.” Likewise, he considers that Barack Obama’s choice of Biden as his running mate in 2008 to appease the ‘establishment’ was “a big mistake.”
“Grandpa turned out to be very dangerous and now he is shouting: ‘Let’s kill the Russians, now is our chance,'” he said, assuring that Biden “confuses Russia with Putin and thinks that if he gets rid of Putin, he will control Russia like in the time of [President Boris] Yeltsin. And that’s just a dream.”
In this context, the director of films like ‘Platoon’ or ‘JFK’ believes that the only “hope” for the US would be “the emergence of a third party”, since both the Republicans and the Democrats “work and function the same and invest the same money in the military industry“.
