Tens of thousands of people toured downtown Madrid streets on Friday in a historic Climate March, which featured stellar presence of Swedish activist Greta Thunberg. At the end of the protest, during the reading of the manifesto in Nuevos Ministerios, actor Javier Bardem took , just before Greta Thunberg did.
From the rostrum, the artist called the city mayor, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, “stupid” for “wanting to reverse Central Madrid.”
Greta Thunberg, the teenage environmental activist, arrived in Madrid on Friday morning to participate in a march in the Spanish capital, which is currently hosting the United Nations climate summit known as COP25.
Thunberg took part in the climate march scheduled to begin at 6pm in Atocha that ended at Nuevos Ministerios in Chamberí, a government complex in the center, where Spanish actor Javier Bardem and music groups Amaral and Macaco did an appearance. The march, called under the slogan “world is waking up to the climate crisis,” has the support of 850 social and environmental organizations.
What does Madrid Central mean?
Central Madrid is a large area of 480 hectares in which traffic will be restricted and favored by pedestrians, bicycles and public transport, which will gain space with the reform of streets such as Gran Vía or Atocha.
