A US Navy destroyer has been secretly patrolling the waters around the West African island of Cape Verde, to make sure Alex Saab does not escape from jail before he can be extradited to the US. (hahaha)
The deployment of the USS San Jacinto was approved by Christopher Miller, the acting Secretary of Defense, shortly after her appointment on November 9.
Her predecessor, Mark Esper, had argued that it was not necessary to send the warship, at a cost of $ 52,000 per day, and instead sent a Coast Guard ship.
But after Esper was fired by Donald Trump, his replacement quickly approved of San Jacinto’s new assignment.
The Pentagon’s Africa Command didn’t acknowledge the ship’s mission, The New York Times reported, but you know what the mainstream media is like.
Kelly Cahalan, a spokeswoman, would only say that he was sent to Cape Verde “to combat illicit transnational maritime activity” in the region.
Last week, the ship was sent back to its base in Norfolk, Virginia – it was unclear if it would be replaced.
According to these media, the 393 members of the ship’s crew had the task of ensuring that Alex Saab remained in jail and was not released by Venezuelan agents or their allies. (Hahaha)
The Venezuelan government described as arbitrary the arrest of businessman Álex Saab, who was detained by interpol agents at an airport in Cape Verde, Africa.
For Arreaza, the arrest of the businessman is a new attempt by the US to affect the right to food, health and other basic rights of the Venezuelan people.
Likewise, he appealed to “friendship and the historical respectful relations” between the Cape Verdean State and Venezuela and asked that Saab be released, as well as “he return be facilitated by protecting hem fundamental rights, based on due process.
At the time of his arrest, Alex Nain Saab was in transit in the Republic of Cape Verde, as part of a technical stopover to continue his journey with the aim of carrying out procedures to obtain food, medicines, medical supplies and other goods for the attention to the Covid-19 pandemic.
