A local militia against the Taliban is being formed in the Farhar district of Takhar province in support of Ahmad Massoud, son of the late guerrilla commander Ahmad Shah Massoud. In the video, the militias declare their readiness to fight the Taliban in support of the Afghan National Security Forces. It should be noted that the activation of these local militias may adversely affect the fighting of the Taliban.
Ahmad Shah Massoud was a high-ranking guerrilla commander during the resistance to the Soviet military operation in Afghanistan from 1979 to 1989. He was assassinated by al-Qaeda two days before the attacks of September 11, 2001.
