The inter-Korean communications office, which is located in the city of Kaesong, was blown up by the military of North Korea.
This was reported by Yonhap with reference to the Ministry of Association of the Republic of Korea. “The DPRK at 14:49 local time carried out the demolition of the building of the inter-Korean communications office in Queson.” At the same time, the agency previously reported explosions and smoke in the area of Keson Industrial Complex, which is located in North Korea. Pyongyang had earlier warned Seoul of the preparation by the armed forces of an “act of retaliation” for distributing campaign leaflets that offended the top leadership of the people’s republic.
The liaison office was launched in September 2018 to facilitate inter-Korean exchange and cooperation amid a reconciliatory mood created by summit talks between their leaders.
The office suspended its operation in early January due to concerns over the coronavirus pandemic.
