More than 150 people were reportedly injured in clashes between Israeli occupation forces and Palestinians at Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, Islam’s third holiest site.
Thousands of worshipers gathered at the mosque, two weeks into the month of Ramadan 2022.
Israeli police entered the area shortly after morning prayers, the Islamic foundation that runs the site said.
More than 80 people were arrested, the mosque’s director, Sheikh Omar Al-Kiswani, told Palestine TV.
Israel’s Foreign Ministry said dozens of masked men carrying Palestinian and Hamas flags had marched into the mosque compound.
“Police were forced to enter the compound to disperse the crowd and remove stones and rocks to prevent further violence,” he tweeted.
