
Dozens of Russian military technicians have been verifying and updating the systems and weapons of the Venezuelan Army. The military-technical cooperation of Russia and Venezuela is very active.
Venezuela has at least 20 operational units of the Russian Sukhoi Su-30 fighter-bomber, whose characteristics are considered similar to those of the US F-15E Strike Eagle, as well as anti-aircraft weapons and Russian technology radars, EFE expanded.
A factory of Kalashnikov rifles is also built in Venezuela, a weapon that is currently used by the Venezuelan Armed Forces.
“It is important to develop our capacity for military technical cooperation to increase the defense capacity of our friends against these threats from outside,” Lavrov told reporters after meeting with Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, in the presidential palace of Miraflores, where he reached the agreement.
Russia is one of the biggest political and commercial allies of the Maduro government. The ties between these countries were strengthened during the government of Hugo Chávez.
