The tasks are to combat crimes such as drug trafficking, illegal mining, smuggling, human trafficking and environmental depredation.
The Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) of Venezuela carry out military operations in the Amazon and Guayana regions, with the purpose of combating illicit activities carried out by armed criminal groups in the South American country.
The head of the Strategic Operational Command of the FANB, Domingo Hernández Lárez, explained that the military tasks combat crimes related to drug trafficking, illegal mining, smuggling, human trafficking and environmental depredation.
Hernández reported that the FANB troops managed to destroy a “criminal illegal mining camp of the armed group Las 3R”, in the Imataca Forest Reserve, in the state of Bolívar, in the southeast of the country, while warning that “every armed group will receive the forceful and legal response of the Venezuelan State“.
In addition, he specified that three men from “The 3R” were arrested, who had in their possession weapons of war, communication equipment, ammunition, uniforms and other elements for their illicit activities.
The military chief said that in another operation, carried out in the Sifontes municipality of Bolívar state, the soldiers found “human skeleton remains in an open pit”, when illegal mines were operating in the area.
“All facilities, structures and equipment used for depredation of the environment in prohibited areas of illegal mining will be dismantled and destroyed for violating the territorial order established in the Security and Defense Plans of the Nation,” the military chief said through Twitter.
Warning to officials
Hernández also warned that people with responsibility in public office, who grant permits for illegal activities related to illegal mining and the destruction of the environment, will be sent to prison.
“Natural and legal persons will be responsible for their actions or omissions in the crimes of contravention of norms or provisions contained in laws, decrees, ordinances and other administrative acts of a general or particular nature that are mandatory,” Hernández recalled.
“Biological diversity, natural resources, ecological processes and National Parks will be conserved, safeguarded and protected as vital heritage of the nation by the FANB. Arbitrary exploitation within the Forest Reserves will not be tolerated,” said the strategic commander.
In addition, he stressed that the State will protect “natural monuments and other areas of special ecological importance” for Venezuela and the rest of the planet, from irregular groups that cut down jungles and forests for their illicit activities.
