The security and surveillance of 2 key projects of this administration: the Mayan Train and the Tehuantepec Isthmus Railway will be in charge of military forces, reported the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
“It is opportune that it be known that along the entire route of the Mayan Train there will be surveillance by the National Guard, even on the trains, there will be aerial surveillance by helicopter. Those who are older – I think they remember – did travel on the railway, that soldiers were on passenger trains, now there will be surveillance, ”he said.
According to the Federal Executive, with the presence of the military in the construction of sections 6 and 7 of the Mayan Train, the situation of insecurity that prevailed in that area has already changed.
The Tren Maya is a 1,525-kilometre intercity railway in Mexico that will traverse the Yucatán Peninsula; construction began in June 2020 and is scheduled to be completed by 2024. The railway begins in Palenque in Chiapas and travels northeast towards Cancún in Quintana Roo via two routes that encircle the peninsula
