The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, on his official visit to Venezuela met with Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino López and high command of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
The general in chief described the meeting as pleasant and fruitful and that human rights are a constitutional mandate and a state policy in Venezuela. They will continue advancing in this matter, because for the Bolivarian National Armed Forces the use of weapons is an ethical matter.
During his visit, the High Commissioner met with senior government officials, representatives of civil society organizations, human rights defenders, representatives of victims’ groups, heads of UN entities and diplomats.
It should be noted that the Latin American Foundation for Human Rights and Social Development (Fundalatin) delivered to the high commissioner a report with 504 cases of patients with chronic diseases, who have been affected by the economic blockade of Venezuela imposed by the United States.
