Italian ambassador to the Democratic Republic of the Congo assassinated in attack on the UN.
The ambassador and the carabinero were traveling aboard a convoy of the mission of the United Nations stabilization organization in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO), according to the same sources. Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio expressed “immense sorrow” after hearing the news while he was at a meeting of European Union Foreign Ministers in Brussels.
