Iran showed a new air defense system “9 Dey”
In the network appeared footage of testing in Iran of a new short-range anti-aircraft missile system “9 Dey”. The anti-aircraft system was shown as part of the demonstration of the new military equipment of the IRGC.
Brigadier General of the IRGC Amir Ali Hajizadeh spoke about the combat capabilities of the new air defense system.
“It is capable of firing advanced short-range missiles and countering imminent threats such as cruise missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles, helicopters and bombs dropped by aircraft.”
Experts point out that, judging by the published footage of anti-aircraft missiles used in the new air defense system, they do not have their own radar seekers and are sent to the target exclusively at the expense of the complex itself.
“9 Dey” was created on the basis of the Khordad-3 medium-range air defense system, which in turn was designed by analogy with the Russian Buk anti-aircraft complex. Khordad-3 gained the greatest fame after destroying the American RQ-4B Global Hawk UAV in 2019.
The exact characteristics of “9 Dey” are not indicated. From weapons, he uses eight containers for anti-aircraft missiles located in two blocks. The radar and transport base of the new air defense system is similar to that of the Khordad-3. It is noted that serial production of the 9 Dey short-range anti-aircraft missile system has already been launched in Iran.
