India gives its Army “complete freedom” to take corrective action against China on the border after deadly clashes with Chinese soldiers.
The government has given “full freedom” to the Army to “take corrective measures,” Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said at the end of a meeting with the leaders of the country’s main political parties on the latest border tensions with China. , which left 20 Indian soldiers dead.
“Whether by deployment, action or counter-action, I assure you that our forces in the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force are doing everything possible to protect the country. We have given them all the freedom to take corrective measures, “he said.
In statements collected this Saturday by the local newspaper India Today, Modi has stressed the defensive capacity of his country, ensuring that the Indian forces “are capable of moving together even in different sectors now.”
Modi added that New Delhi wants “peace and friendship” with Beijing, but the issue of its sovereignty is “supreme”. “Although, on the one hand, we have allowed the defense forces to take the measures they deem appropriate, on the other hand, we have also transmitted our resolution to China through diplomatic means,” he said.
For its part, China is opposed to this escalation of tension. On Thursday they released ten Indian military officers apprehended in the border incident, which occurred last Monday night.
Beijing also called for resolving border tensions with India in the Himalayas “through dialogue and consultation and making efforts to alleviate the situation and safeguard peace and tranquility in the border area.”
These two nuclear powers have open disputes over territories in the Himalaya area. In 1962 they fought a 30-day border war, in which more than 10,000 people died.
