HAMAS Palestinian movements and Al-Fatah pledge to “unite” to thwart the annexation of the West Bank and the Israeli-American “conspiracies”.
“We are going to implement all the mechanisms to guarantee national unity” against annexation project of the occupied West Bank and “the American-Israeli conspiracy,” the secretary-general of the Palestine National Liberation Movement (Al -Fatah), Yibril Rajub, during a joint press conference with the deputy head of the Political Office of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (HAMAS), Saleh al-Aruri.
Speaking from the city of Ramallah (north of the occupied West Bank), Rajub has warned that annexation, if implemented, would amount to a declaration of war against the Palestinians.
“Today, we declared an agreement with HAMAS to confront the annexation plan and [the United States plan] the century agreement,” he stressed.
In turn, Al-Aruri, who spoke in videoconference from Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, has reiterated that the position of the HAMAS leadership “is by national consensus” and has considered this press conference as an opportunity to “start a new stage ”that will serve the strategy of the Palestinian people“ at this dangerous moment ”.
“HAMAS and Al-Fatah didn’t differ in confronting the (Israeli) occupation and resisting its schemes,” Al-Aruri said, noting that the factions are going to lead a battle together under the banner of Palestine to “achieve an independent and sovereign at the 1967 borders and resolve the refugee problem on the basis of international resolutions. ”
The joint press conference was the first of its kind in several years between senior Al-Fatah and HAMAS officials, taking place at a time when Palestinian factions are betting on resistance and increasing cooperation to deal with Israel’s plan to annex parts from the West Bank.
The annexation of 30% of the West Bank, scheduled for this July, is an Israeli project that is part of the so-called ‘deal of the century’, sponsored by the US ,This plan, presented in January by the White House, gives the Palestinians have limited autonomy within a discontinuous homeland, leaving the prized Jordan Valley in the hands of Israel and forgetting the problems of millions of Palestinian refugees eager to return to their lands.
Israel’s usurpation of the West Bank has sparked global protests, including among its European allies, several of whom have threatened to impose sanctions on the Tel Aviv regime and recognize the State of Palestine.
In turn, HAMAS warned last Thursday that it considers the annexation of the West Bank as a “declaration of war” and that it will make that regime “regret” its decision, if it is put into practice.
