Gunmen kidnap 140 pupils from Nigerian boarding school
The attackers overpowered security staff at the high school in Kaduna state, north-western Nigeria, according to a school official – the latest in a wave of MASS ABDUCTIONS targeting schoolchildren and students in the country.
The kidnappers initially took 165 students but 25 managed to escape from their clutches, with one teacher telling local media: “We have no idea where they have taken them.”
Around 1,000 students and pupils have been abducted in different states of Nigeria since just last December. Most have been released after negotiations with local officials, although some are still being held.
