The Islamic Republic of Iran anti-aircraft defense units will carry out this Wednesday the joint units exercise ‘Guardians of Velayat Sky-99′ in more than half of the country’s territory, the Tasnim agency reported.
The commander of the exercises, General Qader Rahimzadeh, reported that the drill will aim to improve the Armed Forces’ preparation for combat and consolidate air defense capabilities in war conditions. According to the general, the exercise will involve combat aircraft, drones, various types of missile systems, radars, electronic warfare equipment, as well as communication systems designed to deal with airborne objects at low, medium and high altitudes.
Iran carries out this type of maneuver annually, in order to improve its defense capabilities of the national airspace. In 2018, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, pointed out that air defense units play a fundamental role in protecting the country, because they are on the front line of fighting against enemies.
