Colombia’s 2019 local elections for governors, mayors, and city councilmembers were supposed to be an opportunity for President Iván Duque’s Democratic Center party to grow its power. Instead, Duque’s approval rating is below 30 percent per Gallup, and the party’s founder, ex-President and current Senator Álvaro Uribe, is under formal investigation by the Supreme Court for alleged procedural violations and witness buying.
Colombia`ll have regional elections this Sunday, October 27, where more than 12 thousand public officials will be elected in the 32 departments of the country, 1,212 municipalities and the capital district of Bogotá, amid an atmosphere of political violence that has already claimed life of seven (7) candidates.

In the territories mentioned in the tweet above, there have been more than 60% of the murder of social leaders, ex-combatants of the FARC and the murder of peasant leaders committed to programs replace illegal crops. Such armed actors seek to set their rules of the game for mayors and municipal councils Colombian elections , without further response from the State.
