The international organization was founded in 2004 on presidents of Cuba and Venezuela initiative , Fidel Castro and Hugo Chávez, with the objective of opposing the US FTAA proposal (Free Trade Area of the Americas).
In 2006, with the accession of Bolivia, the Alliance was strengthened with the proposal of the Peoples’ Trade Agreements (TCP), conceived as instruments of solidarity and complementary exchange between the States of Latin America and the Caribbean to benefit the peoples.
The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – Treaty of Commerce of the Peoples (ALBA-TCP) reaches the fifteenth anniversary of its creation, promoting Latin American integration with greater emphasis.
