Five Colombian soldiers have died when the helicopter in which they were traveling through the department of Bolívar, in the jungle part of Colombia, crashed.
The authorities have reported the incident, which occurred specifically in the Patico Alto village, and have indicated that the military was part of the Anti-narcotics Police, reports the Colombian chain RCN.
“It was a UH-1H HUEY-0741 helicopter, which was carrying units attached to National Police Directorate of Anti-narcotics DIRAN . The incident was reportedly due to mechanical failures. ELN Guerrillas ‘ Edgar Amilkar Grimaldos Barón front, lead by AKA ‘Sebastián’ o ‘Andrés'”operated on the area, the authorities have explained.
The victims are the pilot, Major Maximino Azuero García; Major Edison Garay Valencia, commander of the Santa Marta Jungle Anti-narcotics Company; Lieutenant co-pilot Luis Enrique Fernández Rincón; the aircraft maintenance technician mayor Andrés Franco Osorio Jheyson and the patrol aircraft gunner Edwin Jovanny Arcos Solarte.
