Through one of the commanders of the eastern war front, the National Liberation Army (ELN), assured that there will be no attitude on their part that threatens the election process and that they will be respectful of the decision made by the people. .
The ELN promised not to attack the civilian population in Arauca and eastern Colombia, where the confrontation with dissidents leaves more than 80 dead, according to the Ombudsman’s Office.
This guerrilla group ruled out that in the remainder of President Duque’s government there is any possibility of advancing a peace dialogue.
“For a long time the ELN has not taken actions to influence the electoral processes. We respect that the people make their decisions freely, even if we do not share the vision of democracy in this country. Faced with this electoral process there will be no attitude or hostility that will stop the electoral development. We will be respectful of the decisions made by the people,” says Commander Villareal.
Carlos Villareal, is one of the two commanders who leads the ELN in eastern Colombia and is the spokesman for the eastern war front that is carrying out a harsh confrontation against the FARC dissidents.
We are not confronting a guerrilla nor are we fighting for the drug trade,” says the ELN spokesman.
“It is not true that this is a confrontation over drug trafficking,” he says.
In addition, Villareal says that the political decision of this guerrilla is to confront the group, which he calls mercenaries, led by ‘Arturo Paz’, but promises not to affect the civilian population.
“We reassure the people of eastern Colombia and Arauca that we are not going to affect them with our weapons. Our war is against the group of ‘Arturo Paz’ and his militias.”
The ELN calls for a peace dialogue for the country and rules out that for now this could happen with the current government. Finally, from Arauca the ELN denies the version about the death of the so-called commander ‘Pablito’.
