It was recently the 120th anniversary of the United States occupation of the Guantanamo base, which Cuba denounces as illegal on the island, and a peace conference was held where they discussed the presence of 76 United States and NATO military installations in the region.
The objectives of this Washington policy in Latin America?
How many bases does the United States have around the world and what is the goal? because obviously there is something interesting behind this.
United States military bases abroad dated 2021 up to that moment close to 750 facilities in more than 80 countries, as an extra fact, we have that they have embassies, consulates and missions all over the world and there are only 276… imagine, they have more military bases than places to practice diplomacy… if we go by percentage, they occupy between 75 and 85% of military installations abroad, we are talking about quite large numbers.
In Latin America let’s give examples, some nothing more, where they have these military bases; in Cuba, Honduras, Salvador, Peru and also in Colombia.
The objectives? It is typical, in the region they say: against terrorism, against drug trafficking… But they can no longer hide their failed mission in the country that exports the most cocaine in the world, Colombia.
However, they themselves say what their objectives are and here we have Laura’s statements that she is the commander of the United States Southern Command.
She said why their presence in the region is so important, well, all their natural resources are rich, they are vast, rare earth elements, they have the lithium triangle…
Well there it is, they are saying it, if they are in different nations it is because they have political objectives, military objectives, but also trade, where money is involved and obviously that will always give them power in a certain way.
Politician Atilio Borón believes that the United States military bases are used to deploy its power in other regions, take advantage of natural resources and in many cases for military coup maneuvers.
The United States has an imperial army deployed, some 800 or so bases around the world, but it is very difficult to make an exact count, because there are bases that are disguised as meteorological observation stations or for the prevention of fires in the Amazon, for example, and they serve to project the power of the United States in our region, commented the analyst.
