Daesh claimed responsibility for the massacre in the town of Mukondi on the road between Beni and Butembo between March 08-09, 2023. According to the terrorists, the target was a gathering of local Christians, which was attacked with small arms and blades, as a result of which killed at least 35 people and several more fell into the hands of the attackers. The authorities confirmed the death of 44 people.
