Colonel Juan José Moreno Urzúa and three elements of the 43rd infantry battalion died this Thursday after an armed attack in Escuinapa, Sinaloa, during security operations in the state for the re-apprehension of the son of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, Ovidio Guzmán.
The elements were ambushed and attacked by an armed group in the city of Escuinapa, located 90 kilometers from Mazatlán, in the context of the arrest of Ovidio Guzmán López.
The commander was wounded by a firearm in the right hemothorax and his death was declared at 2:50 p.m. this Thursday.
According to the reports, these elements of the 43rd Infantry Battalion, belonging to Nayarit, would have gone to Sinaloa in support of the authorities.
The first reports around this unfortunate fact indicate that there are at least three more injured elements, however, the severity of their injuries is unknown.
