The Ecuadorian Ministry of Defense reported this Monday, December 26, that Minister Luis Lara Jaramillo and his Colombian counterpart, Iván Velásquez, agreed on mechanisms to strengthen surveillance and control on the border shared by the countries, as part of an effort to reduce the presence of irregular armed groups, linked to drug trafficking and transnational crime.
Within the framework of these agreements, the head of the Joint Command of the Ecuadorian Armed Forces and the general commander of the Colombian Armed Forces will have a meeting next Wednesday, December 28, no further details are yet known, to set parameters for a Ecuador-Colombia border protection plan.
