On December 23, the creation of the Special Operations Command of the Chilean Army (Cope) was formalized, which brings together the capabilities of the Special Operations Brigade (BOE) Lautaro, Army Aviation Brigade (Bave) and Intelligence Brigade (Binte). .
The act signing of delivery and start of operation of the new headquarters of the institution was carried out in a ceremony held at the Peñalolén Military Field of Army General Óscar Izurieta Molina and was chaired by the Commander in Chief of the Chilean Army, General Ricardo Martinez.
The creation of COPE is part of the second phase of execution of the Strategic Development Plan to 2026, called Career Action Plan 2019-2022, which considers among its missions the creation, termination and modifications in the Superior Structure of the Army (ESE) optimizing resources, gathering diverse capacities and coordination of tasks according to the new scenarios.
The Career Action Plan 2019-2022 has among its general objectives to complete the organic endowments of the Land Force and ESE; continue developing initiatives aimed at achieving greater efficiency in the administration of resources and completing to the maximum the equipment of the Land Force in accordance with the planned projects.
