Evo affirms that an attempt to establish a military junta failed and that possession is guaranteed
In his last conference from Buenos Aires, former President Evo Morales stated the possession of Luis Arce as President of the State is guaranteed, although it was not easy, since -as he stated- moves were attempted to establish a military junta to govern Bolivia.
Morales directly accused the commander of the Armed Forces, General Sergio Orellana, of having summoned generals to tell them the MAS government would eliminate military service, lower the retirement of military personnel from 100% to 70%, which would create armed militias. He denied that this is an intention of the Movement towards Socialism.
According to Morales, the Commander also summoned colonels and told them the MAS wouldn’t respect the institutionality and seniority.
He stressed , in both cases, there were soldiers who questioned the Commander and he lost authority.
The ex-president assured the intention against the MAS consisted of mobilizing the armed forces, the presidency be handed over to a Military Junta and convulsing the country with the mobilizations that would be generated. “They failed,” he said.
Morales said two days ago the armed forces had already instructed to prepare the papers to hand them over to the new military command.
He said it hadn’t been easy to guarantee possession, but within the Armed Forces there are patriotic and anti-imperialist soldiers who accept the cultural democratic revolution.
“Until now, possession has been fully guaranteed,” Morales said one day after Arce’s inauguration.
Confirm that he will return to Bolivia
Morales confirmed he will return to Bolivia one day after Luis Arce president’s tenure.
He asserted in the campaign, the premise of his detractors was the MAS doesn’t return to the government and Evo Morales doesn’t back to Bolivia, but now it will be the opposite.
“From tomorrow the MAS is the government and from the day after tomorrow Evo is in Bolivia, history will judge,” he said.
He recalled he had to operate from Buenos Aires in the electoral campaign and that he wasn’t wrong in electing Arce.
“I was not wrong in choosing that comrade Lucho Arce be president,” he said.
He assured there will be no political persecution. He asserted two ministers have already gone to Brazil and it only their conscience is pursuing them.
