The Nigerian military announced a successful operation against Boko Haram (BH) militants in the north-east of the country. According to a spokesman for the Nigerian Armed Forces headquarters, after receiving intelligence, they managed to surround and eliminate a jihadist detachment that was trying to cross the border into Cameroon. Among the killed militants, the security forces identified several field commanders of the BC.
Upon examining the bodies, the Nigerian military found a small arsenal of weapons and a letter in Hausa addressed to a high-ranking BH commander. The security forces don’t disclose its content, but they suspect that the addressee is in the forests of Sambis.
The jihadists were probably sent with an important report. The Sambis forests are a favorite hideout for the militants; the head of the BH Abu Bakr Shekau was hiding there earlier.
